Our Fearless Leader
Kevin's introduction to natural resource management came at the age of nineteen, while looking for something productive to do while skipping his freshman college classes. His interest in forest management was sparked while working on the fire line of an 80-acre wildfire in the mountains near Asheville, NC. This formative experience ignited a deep passion, leading him to spend the next eight years serving as a wildland firefighter with both the North Carolina Forest Service and the United States Forest Service in various roles.
After years of fieldwork and countless nights spent sleeping outdoors, Kevin transitioned from wildland firefighting to emergency medical services (EMS), where he dedicated thirteen years to serving his community as a paramedic. During his off-duty hours, he remained closely connected to natural resource work, taking on roles as a part-time firefighter with the NC Forest Service, arborist, timber faller, and fly-fishing guide.
The birth of his son marked a turning point in both Kevin’s personal and professional journey, reinforcing his desire to pursue a career that combined his love for the outdoors with a commitment to community service. This motivation led him to return to school to study forestry. Today, he owns and operates a company focused on the use modern practices of forest and wildlife management to ensure the resilience of southern Appalachian forests for generations to come.
